agniÏ pÂrvebhir ÃÍibhir ÁËyo nÂtanair uta | sa devÀÙ eha vakÍati ||


The parmeshwar or the fire of yagya or the physical fire had been always worshipped by our ancestors, gurus, teachers, preachers, learned wise-men, seers of mantras.In the same way he is known and researched by vedic students, curious researchers and scientists.

We pray that parmeshwar or yagya-fire or physical-fire provide the powerful-senses, knowledge, divine-characteristics, wisdom, divine-seasons and divine-measures from all directions too this world, this life and this body.

Meaning of words


अग्निः

Interpretation – The first , moving On the front
Literal meaning – Fire, Heat, energy, wave, current, Flow, Devine energy, moving, changing etc.
Reference – Nirukta 7.14

अग्निम् अग्रनिम् अग्निः कस्मात् अग्रणीर् भवती अग्रं यज्ञेषु प्रणीयते अङं नयति संनममानः

Agnim, agranim, agni-h kasmat, agranir bhavati , agram yagyeshu praniyate, angam nayati sanmaman-h

Yaska has given three derivation of word agni. First is spiritual, second divine, third physical.

agranir bhavati - he is the first. This suggests the meaning as “the god”.

agram yagyeshu praniyate- He is accepted on front most position in all rituals , this suggests agni as a very important devta.

angam nayati sanmaman-h- He accepts everything graciously. Or he burns and desolate all things.


According to prof. T. Burrow , agni is derived from root Ag with n suffix containing i. He also thinks this is a noun-word of adjective-root. For example turni, prashni, vahni etc are comparable. ( The Sanskrit language, p.156,183)

According to Prof. Keigi, agni word is derived from displacement-meaning root Aj, and agni means “one who moves” ( The Rigveda, Note 119)



पूर्वेभिः

Interpretation – by Previous people (ancestors, gurus, teachers, preachers )
Literal meaning – by Previous people

इत्यनेन सूत्रेण बाहुलकाद् भिस् एव भवति ।

अधितविद्यैर् वर्त्मानैः प्राक्तनैर् वा विद्विद्भिः ।

Ityanen sutren bahulkad bhis ev bhavati. Adhitvidyeir vartmaneyh praktneyr vaa vidvidbhih.


In these formulas ( Panini ashtadhyayi 7.1.1, 7.1.10 ) majorly the suffix bhis is said to be being.


ऋषिभिः

Interpretation – by seers of mantras
Literal meaning – by priest , by writers of veda
Reference – Dayananda Rigveda Bhashya 1.1.2

मन्त्रार्थद्रष्टृभिर् अध्यापकेस् तर्केः कारणस्थैः प्राणेर् वा

       Mantrarthdrshtrabhir adhyapakes tarkeh karanastheh praner va

By seers of mantras and teaches of logics and reasons with pran.


ईड्यः

Interpretation – had been worshipped
Literal meaning – worshipped
Reference – Nirukta 7.16

ईळितव्यो वन्दितव्यः

Iditavyo vanditavyah

The ide is understand by praying

नूतनैः

Interpretation – By new generation (vedic students, curious researchers and scientists)
Literal meaning – By new

वेदार्थाध्येतृभिर् ब्रह्मचारिभिस् तर्केः कार्यस्थैर् विद्यमानैः प्राणेर् वा । ये सर्वा विद्याः पठित्वा स्त्योपदेशेन सर्वोपकारका अध्यापका वर्तन्ते पूर्वभूताश् च ते पूर्व इति शब्देन, ये चाध्येतारो विद्याग्रहणाभ्यासं कूर्वन्ति ते नूतनैर् इति पदेन् ग्रह्न्ते

      Utshabdo aupyarthe samucchaye

The meaning of word uta is equally-relevant.

देवान्

Interpretation – divine ( divine senses, divine knowledge, divine characteristics, divine seasons, divine measures )
Literal meaning – angels, gods

दिव्यानिन्द्रियाणि विद्यादिदिव्यगुणान् दिव्यान् ऋतून् दिव्यान् भोगान् वा ।

Divyaniindrani vidyadidivyagunan divyan ritun divyan bhogan va.

divine senses, wisdom knowledge and other divine characteristics, divine seasons, divine measures.

इह

Interpretation – here this world
Literal meaning – this

इहेति कृत्स्नस्य जगतः प्रतिनिर्देशः

Here it is directed for this world by the iha.

आ वक्षति

Interpretation – comes from all directions, comes from all over, comes from everywhere
Literal meaning – comes from everywhere
Reference – Dayananda Rigvedabhashya 1.1.2

समन्तात् वहतु प्रापयतु

Samantat vahatu prapyatu

Accepts everything which comes from all over.
